Dear Editor
The most important infrastructural facilities which the generality of the populace cherish and enjoy together, irrespective of class, colour and creed, are accessible roads, electricity supply and potable water. With these basic public amenities in place, there is no doubt that people in various communities will record quantum leap to economic advancement.
Anambra State is endowed with abundant natural and human resources, and very prominent people with enterprising spirits who have made remarkable imprints in the sands of time through the establishment of industries and bubbling business ventures that provide huge employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands of the citizens. That makes the state a genuine commercial nerve-center and ‘Light of the Nation’.
A visit to the sprawling Onitsha commercial city, Nnewi industrial hub (otherwise known as the Dubai of Africa) and other parts of the State including Ihiala, Ekwulobia, Nkpor, Neni and Oraifite will convince any doubting Thomas about the ingenuity of the Igbo people of Anambra extraction.
Since taking over the mantle of leadership of the state from immediate ex-Governor Peter Obi, the incumbent Governor Willie Obiano has continued to keep the flag flying in the development of the state. It is to his credit that Anambra today boasts of an international airport, world-class international conference center and above all, a major food basket of the nation through mechanized farming that launched the state to limelight with popular branded ‘Anambra Rice’.
The governor also performed unprecedented feats with his ‘Community Choose Your Project’ initiative which ensured that all the 181 communities in the state benefitted from big windfall of N40 million each under the first and second phases of the programme to provide their much-needed amenities according to their desires. He also championed the grassroots’ electrification scheme nicknamed ‘Operation Light up Anambra’, etc.
However, it is my candid opinion that Governor Obiano will silence his vocal critics, if he immediately tackles the yawning challenge of fixing the badly dilapidated roads around the state, in order to finish strong with less than one year to sign off. He will be highly rated and generally considered to have excelled to win more accolades if he can urgently fix the badly devastated network of roads in the state that once earned us the enviable rating as the state with the best network of roads in the federation
Hon. Victor C. Ndulue, Awka.
