After being in perpetual darkness for three consecutive years without hope, luck may have smiled on the people of Akim community in the Calabar Municipality as they, yesterday, took possession of two new 33.500 kva and one 11kva transformers from the state government.

Speaking on what the people saw as supernatural intervention, one of the commissioners in Gov Ben Ayase’s government, Emmanuel Edward, thanked the governor for coming to the help of the people after all hope had been lost.

Edward, who disclosed that the community had been in darkness for more than three years, added that, with the donation of the transformers, normal life would begin and that businesses would be boosted.

He said, “let me, on behalf of my people from Akim community, thank his Excellence Prof Ben Ayade for giving us those transformers, we have stayed for more than three years without electricity but thank God that we have a listening governor who fulfils promises, we are very grateful to him.”

The commissioner said he had appealed to the governor to assist his community that had stayed for years without light due to the challenge with transformers, and that the governor graciously approved three transformers for the community.

An indegene, Bassey Bassey Okon, expressed belief that the movement of the people of the area to APC, alongside the governor, was yielding result.

“We, as a community, will work for the success of the party in the coming elections at all levels,” he stated, but appealed for more transformers to carry the whole community.
