A 31-year-old man, Sunday Eyim, has been arrested and detained for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl in his apartment at Oruana village Amawbia, in Awka South local government area of Anambra state on July 11.
Enyim was picked up by police operatives from the Central Police Station, Awka, on Tuesday, following a tip off.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra state command, SP Haruna Mohammed, Police operatives attached to Uli Division had, on July 12, arrested a 28-year-old man, Chinonso Ugochukwu (aka NEPA) of Ndikokwu Umuaku Uli in Ihiala local government area of Anambra state for allegedly luring a 5-year-girl into his room and defiled her.
Mohammed further disclosed that the commissioner of police in the state, CP John Abang, directed that both cases be transferred to the state criminal investigation department, Awka, for discreet investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
He added: “Members of the public, particularly parents and guardians, are enjoined to be watchful and caution their children against strangers and also encourage them to report any person making sexual advance or harassment on them to enable the parent take a proactive measure before it becomes intractable. The public should also be security conscious at all times, and always report suspicious rape cases in their neighbourhood to the nearest police stations for prompt action.
