Tension has continued to unsettle residents of Eziokpor quarters in Ukwuani local government area of Delta state following the attack on a businessman, Anidibie Paul, in the area by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The herdsmen were also alleged to have killed two persons during the clash between them and the people of Eziokpor quarters last Monday.
Some of the residents are reported to have since fled their homes out of fear.
A resident, speaking to our correspondent, said that ‘We have been heavily disturbed by these rampaging herdsmen in our community and on the fateful day We got information that they took their cattle to our farmlands again. We moved into the area and they engaged us in a fight, killing two persons from our side.”
It was further gathered that suspected cultists and armed robbers, apart from the herdsmen, had converted some of the communities in Ukwuani local government area into their operational bases where they allegedly kill unsuspecting residents, including farmers, in the last few months after robbing them at gunpoint.
The police public relations officer in the state, DSP Edafe Bright, who confirmed the incident said investigation was ongoing with a view to arresting those behind the activities, disclosing that three persons had been arrested and currently being detained at the State CID for further investigation before they will be charged to court.
Mr. Anidibie Paul, a victim from Eziokpor, who was allegedly attacked by the herdsmen on his way to his farm in Ukwuani, said “I was shot by the herdsmen during the fight but God saved me.”
He managed to survive the brutal attack with a severe gunshot injury on his neck and right shoulder and that left his right arm paralysed. He is currently nursing the severe injury he sustained, facing the burden of meeting the hefty medical bills and struggling to raise money for his welfare because he’s obviously not fit to resume work at present.
