Police in Ogun State have arrested a herdsman with one AK 47 rifle in CAC Oha forest in Iwoye Ketu in Imeko Afon local government area of the state.
The man was simply identified as Mohammed.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday following information received by the DPO Imeko Division Headquarters, that two young Fulani boys were sighted in the forest of Iwoye Ketu community with AK 47 rifle.
The police public relations officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
Oyeyemi said that upon the information, the DPO quickly mobilised his men, hunters, vigilante men, and the Social Orientation and Safety Corps, SO-SAFE, and stormed the said forest.
“After hours of combing the forest, one Mohammed was seen hiding in the bush with one AK 47 rifle, and he was promptly arrested.”
“The arrested armed boy is strongly suspected to be member of kidnap syndicates who have been terrorising the area for quite some time now.” the police PRO added
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, CP Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
The CP also directed that the entire forest be properly combed with a view to apprehending other members of his gang.
