Ahead of the May 2022 primary elections of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, some elders and stakeholders from Izzi clan have objected to reports that a State Legislator from the area have allegedly been ‘endorsed’ to fly the Party’s flag for the 2023 Governorship election in Ebonyi State.

While beckoning on the Party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu to immediately intervene to save the Party from eventual collapse, the leaders said in a Press conference in Abakaliki on Saturday, said, “We, therefore, call on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), His Excellency, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and all the National executives of our party to intervene and nip the crisis in the bud before it escalates to ruin the chances of our party in winning the forthcoming general elections”.

The stakeholders who alleged that plans have been concluded to impose one of the governorship aspirants and a prominent Lawmaker from Izzi on the people, vowed they won’t tolerate such act.

The stakeholders who included a former Ambassador, Alex Nwofe, Chief Michael Udenwe, Chief Nick Ochigbo, Uchenna Nshi, Godwin Nwamkpuma, and many others, described the plot as undemocratic.

According to the stakeholders, they maintained that they are working to deepen democracy in Ebonyi State and nobody can disparage them as they will vehemently reject such action.

The stakeholders therefore recollected that Ebonyi people should note that APC is yet to issue guidelines on the primary therefore they should disregard the purported adoption of a sole candidate for the 2023 governorship election, as it is an effort incurtility because it lacks due process.

The Izzi APC stakeholders further claimed that the state government has tacitly endorsed the prominent Lawmaker from the clan by mandating the traditional rulers in the Izzi clan, three houses of Assembly members in the clan, the three council chairmen from the clan, and all the political appointees from the area to endorse the aspirant and air the endorsements on the state radio, EBBC when meeting on who will take the APC ticket from Izzi clan has not been concluded.
