  • ace journalist extols publisher

By Lawrence Nwimo

As the grass being green and water being wet, all is now set for an effective collaboration between Orient Magazine, Newspaper and Communication Limited, OMNCL (publishers of Orient Daily and Orient Weekend newspapers) and a veritable online news media platform, The Reporters.com.ng, aimed at tapping from the gains and potentialities of the new media.

This was made known by the Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Stanley Egbochuku, when he played host to the Editor-in-Chief of the online platform, Alhaji Dada Ahmed, at the OMNCL corporate headquarters in Awka yesterday.

Ahmed, who paid the visit as part of his tour to the investments and projects of the publisher and chairman of Orient Daily Newspapers, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, in Anambra state, extolled the creative ingenuity and socio-economic impacts made by his numerous investments in the lives of people of the state in particular and Nigeria in general.

“I am amazed by the plethora of projects established by the industrialist in the state. It is quite impressive. Part of the aim of my visit is to interact with this news establishment and to build a healthy relationship that will be beneficial to us both,” he said.

Speaking earlier, in an interview, Egbochuku described Orient Daily as a daily and weekend newspaper that circulates in all the Southern parts of the country with a ready plan to penetrate the Northern axis in the near future.

He said the company was in a symbiotic relationship with some other newspapers and which had enabled it to circulate widely in the South West while maintaining its popularity and circulation in the South-East and South-Southern parts of the country.

According to him, “the South-East and South-South axis is not well covered because everybody’s focus is in Lagos and Abuja. But here, we think local but act global,” adding that the newspaper would continue in its culture of remaining fair and objective in its reportage of all parties and interests as a professional news platform.

He restated that, although Orient Daily was unrepentantly hardcopy, the media firm was still looking forward to a partnership between both platforms in a way that would make the newspaper profit immensely from online practice.

Egbochuku, however, noted that the company had acquired interest online but said people were often scared due to the credibility issues around its news reports.
