Four days after an alleged burglar was lynched and set ablaze, authorities concerned are his decomposing corpse is yet to be evacuated at Zik’s Innosi Onira Retreat Round-about axis, adjacent Onitsha South Mass Transit Motor Park, scene of the incident in Onitsha, Anambra state.

According to traders close to the scene, the suspected burglar met his untimely death when he was caught red-handed by local security operatives at about 2a.m last Sunday while breaking a shop. He was then dragged to the open space close to Onitsha South Mass Transit Park by irate residents, lynched and set ablaze.

According to one of the traders who preferred anonymity, “It was on Tuesday when we came to open our shops that we saw the corpse because Monday was IPOB sit-at-home and so we did not come out on Monday. On enquiry we were told that he was a shop breaker that was caught while breaking one of the shops and lynched.

“Our greatest problem now is that the corpse has decomposed and the offensive odour oozing out from the corpse has forced us to vacate our trading location within the park. We are surprised that authorities concerned have not removed the corpse four days now since he was lynched and burnt and there is no hope of removing it. To worsen the situation the police have no time to look into that as they are still in hiding to avert the wrath of IPOB.”

Also reacting, a transporter who simply identified himself as Emerem, said, “We are in trouble here because the corpse has decomposed and nothing is being done to remove it. The very first time I saw the corpse I thought it was one of these ‘one chance’ armed robbers that constantly operate within this axis until I heard he was a shop breaker.

“Do you know that a few minutes ago passengers who were standing close to the corpse waiting to board a vehicle were robbed by a four-man armed robbery gang that drove in a mini bus. These passengers were robbed of all their possessions at gun-point while the corpse of the lynched burglar was still there begging for evacuation before everybody and these men of the underworld had the guts to come there and rob people, one day they will go like the burglar,” he said.
