The chairman Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Engr. Elias Mbam, Monday denied social media reports that Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi demanded the sum of N2bn as a condition to support him in the 2023 governorship election in the state.

He, however, urged the members of the public and his supporters to disregard such information from those he described as ‘unscrupulous elements who are parading fake news on social media.’

The RMAFC chairman was quoted in a statement signed by his chief press secretary said, Obinna Udenwe, in which he described the reports as unfortunate, pointing out that such was a figment of the imagination of the writer.

According to the statement, at no time whatsoever did Umahi make such demand, neither was such discussion been held anywhere, at any time, advising the general public to ignore and disregard the report which he described as malicious.

The statement went on to say that “at this time, when our society is faced with a high level of insecurity, mostly arising from fake news and the dissemination of malicious information, people should know that they would be held accountable for the resultant effect of their lies and deceits.”
