Mrs Anthonia Nwedeogu, a 40-year-old-woman has been arrested and detained by police in Ebonyi for allegedly killing her husband, Benedict Nwedeogu with rat poison at Ndiakparata village, Igbeagu Community in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State.
Mrs. Nwedeogu, it was gathered, allegedly conspired with her secret loverboy, Augustine Nwachukwu, their tenant, to poison her 45-year-old husband, popularly known as Mr. Eddie on March 22 so as to pave the way for the duo to elope and re-marry.
However, things took a different twist when the loverboy fled the community shortly after the husband died after eating the supper allegedly prepared with the poisonous substance and Mrs Nwedeogu eventually stripped, paraded and banished from the community by irate youths, women and children on March 26.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Loveth Odah, the suspect was eventually arrested on Tuesday while efforts to arrest the fleeing lover boy was in top gear. Odah disclosed that the suspect was arrested following an official report filed by her son, Chibuike Nwedeogu.
“Following the report, Police detectives visited the scene and the alleged suspect Nwedeogu Anthonia was arrested, while effort is on to hunt down the second suspect Nwachukwu Augustine who fled the scene immediately after the incident”, Odah disclosed.
“Investigation revealed that Nwachukwu Augustine lives in the deceased (Nwedeogu Benedict)’s house as tenant and that he is a secret lover of Nwedeogu Anthonia (the deceased’s wife) and that the two lovers were seen together before the untimely death of Mr. Nwedeogu Benedict.
While the remains of Mr Benedict Nwedeogu has been deposited at St. Vincent Hospital Mortuary Ndiubia Igbeagu Izzi, police say the case was under investigation after which the suspect(s) would be charged to court for prosecution.
