Abia Warriors coach, Willy Udube says his team is ready for the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL should organisers, LMC, stick to its earlier advertised December 6 kick off date, Orient Sports reports.
Udube spoke after his side squeezed water out of the rock, with a 2-1 triumph over Uche Okechukwu’s Abia Greater Tomorrow team in the first match of the match day three of the 2020 Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament holding inside Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

Mustapha Jibreel handed Warriors an early lead, scoring in the 10th minute but Igbokwe Goodnews drew the minnows back on level terms six minutes past the hour mark from the spot after an advancing striker was tripped inside the area.

But just when the youngsters were beginning to enjoy their new found confidence, Tekena Garanda made hay with an exquisite cross from Elkanah Goodnews which was not properly defended to grind out a 2-1 win for his side.
And a delighted coach Udube who had 24-hours ago described his team as ‘work in progress’, now declared that after three tough games in the 2020 Gov Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament, his team is now fully ready for the 2020/2021 domestic top flight should NPFL kick off on the designated December 6 date.

“You can understand that we played very, very well in the first half but pulled off the throttle after about 25 minutes”, Udube starts. “But we will continue to put pressure on them for them to really understand what we want them to play for us.

“Yes, we are building a team. You can see that we had almost an entirely new squad today from those that played yesterday. Call it ‘squad rotation’ but we have a target. By the time we find out those that can play for us, or what we call ‘the right balance’, we can now tell you that we have the team that can represent us.

“If the league starts on December 6, I would say, we are ready. We’ve played a lot of matches especially in preseason tournaments like the Gov Okezie Ikpeazu Cup, we are using the games to build the team.
“Any team that is not ready now, when will they be? After this tournament, we would have only one week left before the league starts. So, we are ready”.

Abia Warriors, he revealed, has a target in the coming season.
“Yes, we have a target. There is no team going into a competition that does not have a target. So we have a target. Our ambition is to get a continental target and we are working strongly for that.
“The management is ready to give us whatever we ask from them”.
