We’ll swim, sink with Ayade, Council chairmen vow
By Joseph Kingston, Calabar
As tension continues to rise on who controls the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River state, all the18 local government chairmen, vice chairmen, 196 councillors and more than 6,000 appointees have said they were ready to swim and sink with Gov Ben Ayade.
Recall that there has been a political tug-of-war between Ayade and National Assembly members in the state over the PDP structures. This resulted in the party fielding two candidates for last year’s CR North senatorial district by-election with the matter reaching the Apex court.
The Chairman of Akpabuyo local government council, Hon Emmanuel Offiong Bassey, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues during a solidarity rally in Calabar, Thursday, said since it was God who sent the Governor to the state to salvage it, Cross River people would support every move, programmes and policies of the Ayade-led administration to the end.
“With this rally, we are sending a clear message that we are soldly behind the leader of the party in Cross River, His Excellency Professor Ben Ayade. We will stop at nothing to ensure we give him all that he would need to succeed. We are ready to die sink with him, swim and possibly die with him if need be.
“We are telling our leader to go to sleep because his foot soldiers are on the ground. Ayade is the leader of the PDP in Cross River and whosoever plays with this fact does so at his or her own perils,”Bassey stated.
Also speaking, Chairman of Boki, Hon John Ewa, said Ayade’s industrialization vision has endeared him to Cross River people and therefore called on all Cross Riverians to reciprocate the governor’s gesture.
Two female Chairmen, Hon Mrs Justina Edem of Odukpani and Hon Mrs Ada Egwu of Biase local government councils, corroborated and demanded total loyalty and support from Cross River people so as to encourage the Governor to do more.
“There is no political ward in the state that has not benefitted from the current administration one way or the order either through appointment or direct employment with their multiplier effects. We are telling whosoever care to listen that Ayade is our leader and every other person should key behind him,” Hon Edem stated.
