Truck driver escapes lynching after injuring mother, child in Umuahia

Undisclosed number of persons are now battling for their lives following multiple accident along Ikot-Ekpene by BCA road Umuahia on Tuesday.
Orient Daily gathered that trouble started when the driver of a trailer with registration number DUK 584 XA made efforts to maneuver his way in the ever busy road. He was said to have hit a woman and her child in a tricycle (Keke) leaving them with varying degrees of injury.
Eye witness said that while he made his way to park in an apparent effort to access the situation, he suddenly zoomed off, ignoring signals from traffic warden in the area.
In an attempt to escape, he also hit another tricycle as well as a Toyota Corolla vehicle that attempted to block him from escaping, leaving them beyond repairs.
This however angered the youths of the area, who engaged in a hot chase and later apprehended him at Bende road by Amaeke Ibeku junction.
The hit and run driver whosever identity could not ascertained immediately, however jumped off the vehicle, leaving his assistant to his fate, who was handed over to the police pending the return of the driver.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Apostle Christian Ulonnam and the Youth leader of the area told our reporter that the presence of the police personnel saved the driver and his assistant from being lynched by the angry youths of the area.
