The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibril Mai Gwari II, has for the first time spoken about that attack on his convoy – The traditional ruler is thankful that he was not in the convoy when it was attacked – The monarch said bandits have been terrorising his domain for over 20 years The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibril Mai Gwari II, has narrated how he escaped an attempt on his life by bandits operating in his domain.

The attack on the Emir of Birnin Gwari has been condemned. the traditional ruler told the BBC Hausa service that the bandits attacked his convoy with the aim of killing him.

The monarch said he was fortunate that he was not in the convoy when the attack occurred. He stated that if the bandits are in his domain because of gold deposits, let them explore it and leave his people alone. Narrating how his convoy was attacked, Emir Mai Gwari said: “At the last minute, I decided to ask for relief from the Nigerian Air Force.

They were the ones who brought me to Kaduna that evening. That’s how God made it. “I was not in the car but it is clear that the bandits targeted my car, and Allah protected my driver and my orderly. Only my car got some bruises. “But clearly the aim was to kill us. If you see the bullet holes on my car, on the windscreen and the side where I usually sit, the aim was clearly to kill us, but the Almighty decided otherwise.” He disclosed that the bandits who have been operating in his area since 1994, have moved from cattle rustling to armed robbery, and now kidnapping.

Meanwhile, a human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has condemned the bandits’ attack on the convoy of the Emir of Birnin Gwari, in Kaduna state. The former senator in a tweet on Wednesday, March 17, described the incident as tragic. He, however, said it was thankful that the traditional was not in any of the vehicles at the time the shooting occurred.
