Massive drift of players has become the order of the day in the fold of FC ifeanyi Ubah, a Nigeria Professional Football League side as players leave in droves in search of greener pastures, Orient Sports reports.
As at the last count, no fewer than five key players of the 2016 Aiteo Cup winners have exited the Oil and Gas outfit, with Enugu Rangers, Rivers United and Akwa United as major beneficiaries.
Orient Sports checks reveal that midfielder, Ikenna Cooper is on his way to Oriental Rivals, Rangers.
Free scoring defender, Chilekwu Chigozie is understood to have penned a deal with Lobi Stars while Jimoh Badamosi has signed for Rivers United who will represent the country in the 2020/2021 CAF confederation Cup competition.
Similarly, the duo of Charles Okafor and Uche Sebastine have moved to Akwa United.
“There are still many others who are on their way out. You know players, they always try to keep their plans close to their chests until when the jungle matures”, one of the players said.
The players claims they needed fresh challenges elsewhere even though it wasn’t a pleasant campaign last term for them.
“It wasn’t the best for us last season but we need to move on. The most important thing is the platform and opportunity for us to express what we have.
“And for that reason, we are grateful to the club. But in terms of financial reward, it was tough for us”, the player added.
But an official who would not want to be named in print disclosed that the club does not hold back players who want to move on.
“We don’t block players movement once due process in terms of their transfer issue was followed”, the official said.
