7 escape death in Anambra as commercial bus rams into truck
Seven passengers escaped death but sustained varying degrees of injury in an auto crash along the Onitsha-Owerri expressway, at Ozubulu in Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra state. The accident which occurred around 9pm on Monday, involved a commercial bus and an articulated truck.
The bus driver was reportedly overtaking another vehicle when he rammed into the truck which was parked by the side of the road.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Andrew Kumapayi said the crash was caused by wrongful overtaking and speeding. He said all occupants of the vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries.
He said, “A serious Road Traffic Crash happened at Ozubulu by Seahorse Lubricant Ltd today 22nd March, 2021 at about 0910 hrs. “The crash was between a driver of Goodness and Mercy Transport company driving a Nissan Carvan Bus with registration number NSH517YG and unidentified driver of MAN Truck with registration number GGU83XA.
“A total of seven persons (3 male adults and 4 female adults) were involved in the Crash. Eyewitness report shows that the crash was due to Wrongful overtaking and speeding. The bus rammed into a stationary truck by the side of the road while overtaking, which led to serious crash. The victims were taken to Obijackson Hospital Okija and Our Lady of Lourdes hospital by FRSC rescue team from Oraifite Command.”
Kumapayi cautioned motorist to always exercise patience and avoid speeding and wrongful overtaking while driving, just as he warned them to only overtake where and when it was safe to do so.
