Respect political freedom of Ebonyians, PDP chieftain Warns Umahi
By Ruth Oginyi
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Onuoha Nnachi Tuesday warned the State governor, David Umahi to respect the political freedom of Ebonyi people as he enjoys his new political home.
He stated this in his home at Owutu, Edda, Afikpo South local government area of Ebonyi State while reacting to alleged attacks and intimidations of PDP faithful in the state in the wake of the governor’s recent defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The opposition PDP had accused the APC in the state of plotting attacks on its faithful for refusing to join the governor in defecting, an allegation the ruling party has continued to deny.
Mr. Nnachi noted that the governor has a right to join any party, a right that PDP members also have under the constitution.
He said: “The governor left the PDP because of his aspiration. And personal aspiration can drive anyone to any point even death.
“It’s his aspiration if he wanted and he feels he wanted to carry everybody he needed that time to carry everybody. Nobody chased him away, he is free to do so. But party differences must be respected and kept the way it is”, he said.
On the security situation of the country, the party Chieftain blamed the high rate of insecurity in Nigeria on poor leadership by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, the inability of the president to manage the economy is partly responsible for the growing insecurity in the country.
Mr. Nnachi, a former senatorial aspirant in PDP, said the failure of the president to appoint capable hands to manage the country’s economy led to its collapse.
His word: “It is a presidential issue. The president has failed the country on security. It is as if we have no president. The economic structure is not properly handled. We know that causes insecurity.
“By last February the value of our naira was 360 to a dollar. It means if you have N360m you could afford a million dollars. But today to afford a million dollars you need N480m. N120m difference, that’s the rate of devaluations, you cannot survive it in our economy”.
“And it is true, our monetary policies are a failure, our fiscal policies are a failure because we have the wrong people in the right place”, he said.#
