The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, has described Queens’ Convent Awka as the best place for moral and academic learning in Anambra state.

Archbishop Ibezim stated this at the weekend during the 2020 General Harvest Thanksgiving at the Queens’ Convent, Awka tagged, “Celebration of God’s Faithfulness” He stated that the young school which is barely three years old has grown into a theater of dream where champions will be produced in the near future.

He said the school has the facility to become one of the best schools in the country and called on the Anambra state government to as a matter of urgency intervene to support the mission school in their drive to give the girl child sound academic and moral learning in the state.

He said that the school has done enough to deserve government attention and support, stressing that government must reassure it’s commitment through project support and infrastructure.

Archbishop Ibezim who specifically called the attention of the state government to the Queens’ convent, a baby school of the Anglican diocese of Awka urged the state government to encourage the Church in it’s drive to champion and project the image of the state through sound academic performance.

“We are trying to project the image of the government through the schools under us but the government is not showing concern. The school is not a child’s play because our people want good thing but nobody wants to pay for it.

” We want government to show strong presence because at times the Church gets weak when we don’t see direct involvement of government to help us.”

The Archbishop called on the first lady of the state, Dr (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano to make her presence known in the school, stating that building structures in the citadel of learning would bring the needed motivation to the students which according to him will also inform the students on the maxim of ‘giving back to the society’ as well as
key in line with her drive for girl child training.

He however, assured that Queens’ Convent Awka is bent on moulding students academically and spiritually in a way to prepare them for the future , even as he urged the state government to provide security to ensure safety of the girls in the Convent.

Earlier, Dr (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano while describing her resolve to promote girl child education said that the place of the girl child is essential part of her programme and reassured that her foundation, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE is geared towards touching lives of the girl child.

Mrs Obiano also reminded that her foundation has and will continue to build houses for widows even toilets to promote hygiene as well as promote dignity of women and empowerment of women in all facets of life.

Mrs Obiano who was represented by the deputy press secretary to the Governor, Hon Emeka Ozumba also said that Queens’ Convent is the best in the country and challenged the management to churn out brilliant students that will make the state proud.

Also, the Secretary to the state government, SSG, Mr. Solo Chukwulobelu urged the students to study hard and set records that Anambra state is known for and which other students can emulate or struggle to break.

Commending the school management for the swift progress it has recorded in a short period of existence, the Chairman Awka Diocesan Education Board, Prof Nkechi Ikediugwu in her brief advice urged the students to work hard to fulfil their purpose of being in school. ” it is not enough to look beautiful, we need character and intelligence. The laboratory is well furnished and the library filled with laudable materials. The society is looking on you to produce results”.

Addressing the congregation, the Principal of Queens’ Convent, Awka and President Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild and Girls’ Guild, Province of the Niger and Diocese of Awka, Mrs Martha Chioma Ibezim lauded Archbishop Ibezim for his financial and material interventions to Queen’s Convent Awka.
According to Mrs Ibezim, the structures erected by the Archbishop- led Diocese for the Convent has made the mission school unequaled in the Southeast.

She appealed to good spirited individuals, organizations and Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano to assist the young school to actualize it’s dream of becoming the best by erecting a chapel which will also be vital in spiritual and moral training of the girl child.

Earlier in his sermon, Principal of St. Paul’s College Nibo – Nise, Reverend Joseph Onyibo reminded Christians of the need to be relentless in the service of God, even as he cautioned them to be prayerful to avoid losing their faith in God.

Speaking on the theme of the Harvest, “Celebration of God’s Faithfulness, ” he urged Christians to be thankful of the lord for his goodness stating that “harvest is used to appreciate God and those who sow in tears reap in joy.”

He said that harvest is a time of harvesting and reaping and Christians must endeavor to appreciate God to reap the blessings of God.

He reminded Christians of the final harvest which is the harvest of end time adding that the time is ripe for God to harvest his people.

He urged Christians to work hard and pray so that they would not be found wanting on the day of God’s harvest.
