President General aspirants pledge to restore peace in Urum community

Aspirants for the office of the President General, Urum Town Union (UTU) in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state have said that restoring peace and unity to the community would be their administration’s top priority if given the mandate in the election slated to hold on December, 30, 2020 at the community field.
Three of the aspirants; Chief Cosmas Obiesili, Hon. Christopher Chinwuko and Mr. Chika Nwankwo made the assertion at Urum Civic Centre during manifestoe presentation organised by Mr. Mathew Ekworoanya, a media program producer and indigene of Urum town.
One of the aspirants, Mr. Aloysius Tabansi was absent during the debate that attracted dignitaries, community leaders and youths from the agrarian community.
In his remarks, the convener and the organiser of the debate, Mr. Mathew Ekworoanya enjoined the the aspirants to play according to the rules and as well avoid utterances that could jeopardise their chances during the election.
He stated that the debate, which is being introduced in the history of the community election was aimed at bringing out the best from the aspirants as well as eliciting from them, the plans they have for the community, especially the youths if elected the town’s president General.
Ekworoanya who is also an on air personality with Radio Nigeria Purity Fm Mgbakwu however commended the aspirants, elders and other stakeholders for making themselves available for the debate.
In his presentation, one of the aspirants, Hon Christopher Chinwuko, a farmer and politician admitted that internal and external crisis has torn the community apart but pledged to broker peace between the leadership of the town union and the traditional institution which he said had lingered over the years.
He also noted that the persistent clash between farmers and herdsmen in the area will be a thing of the past as he plans to deploy a mechanism that would promote peace and unity in the town.
“I will make Umuife village and other villages that make up Urum town to be in peace. I will also settle the case of church and masquerade crisis and ensure that all houses in Urum are metred”
Another aspirant, Mr. Chika Nwankwo, a businessman, promised to carry everybody along if elected, adding that the internal and external crisis bewildering the community informed his decision to contest for the number one position of the community
“We need to engage the youths to reduce youth restiveness and as a business man, I know how to engage the youths.
“My administration will be transparent in all that we do and also, I will be convening a meeting regularly to address some issues that might require urgent attention.
On his part, the outgoing Deputy President General of the town and staff of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Chief Hon. Cosmos Ameachi Obiesili, stated that his wealth of experience in community leadership will be brought to bare.
Chief Obiesili highlighted how he attracted for his community, a Central Bank of Nigeria-World bank assisted projects which according to him, include: ten (10) lockup shops in the market square, four (4) functional and standard public toilets, Corps members lodge among other projects.
He however boasted that Urum, his community was rated first by world bank for timely completion of the projects, standard and quality of the work, saying that they were all delivered according to specification.
He also pledged to resuscitate the towns health centre and make the civic centre functional for administrative purposes.
” I will have days that I will be sitting in office to receive people and complaints with a view to solving them” he said.
