Police nab 4 men impersonating Anambra COVID-19 team, selling fake products

Operatives of Anambra State Police Command have arrested four men for impersonating the Anambra COVID-19 team in Onitsha, the commercial nerve center of the state.
The suspects, according to an official statement issued by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, were arrested by police operatives attached to Central Police Station on Tuesday. They include; Anthony Chidubem Oyatubo ‘m’ aged 30 years of Nimo, Njikoka LGA, Nwachukwu Chidi ‘m’ aged 31 years of Awka, Chris C. Okeke ‘m’ aged 30 years – of Awka and Olisa Moura ‘m’, aged 25 years of Onitsha.”
Mohammed further disclosed that the suspects who claimed to be officials of the Ministry of Health, fully kitted with reflective jackets and caps with inscriptions ‘FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19’ were found in possession of surgical masks, hand sanitizers and other items discovered to have been produced locally under unhygienic conditions and considered fake. “They were selling the products to the unsuspecting members of the public as well as distributing same to various outlets in Onitsha before their arrests.
The police spokesman said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were neither government workers nor health officials as they claimed but misguided elements who took advantage of the present pandemic to market their unhygienic products to buyers.
“Exhibits recovered in their possessions include three cartons of hand sanitizers, flyers, several reflective jackets, four caps and over fifty masks. The case is under investigation, after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution,” he said.
