Our position on same sex marriage irreversible – Archbishop Ibezim
The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Alexander Ibezim has restated that the position of the church on same sex marriage remained irreversible.
He also described as unscriptural teachings that equate women with men.
Ibezim spoke weekend at the solemnisation of holy matrimony between Chioma Okoye and Frank Maduka at Church of Pentecost, Awka, Anambra state.
Chioma is the daughter of the Bishop of Ihiala Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev Prof Israel Okoye while Frank is a former state chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra state council.
He described gay marriage as satanic and that it runs against the standard and law of nature.
Taking his Bible reading from Ephesians 5:21, the bishop condemned any cause that championed equality of women to men, stressing that there was no place God intended women to be equal to men from bible history.
He said,” Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church.
“So, these people championing equality of woman and men are giving wrong teaching. The scripture does not support that.
“Gay activities were satanic and run against the standard and law of nature. God set up marriage institution for a man and woman and not for people of same sex to engage or conduct themselves as married couple.
“The Anglican Church is strongly against gay marriage; and would never change its stand on them.”
Ibezim, at the wedding presided over by the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of all Nigeria, Most Rev Henry Ndukuba, with scores of bishops and other dignitaries in attendance, urged the new couple to remain steadfast in love and always pray for each other.
