Oshiomhole wrong on APC membership registration – Zwingina
By Uzoh Ugwueze. Enugu
The chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, membership revalidation and registration panel for Enugu state, Senator Jonathan Zwingina, has reiterated the legality of the ongoing membership registration exercise.
This is contrary to the opinion canvassed by the immediate past national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Oshiomhole had, while revalidating his membership, described the exercise as unconstitutional.
However, speaking in Amaechi, in Enugu South local government area of Enugu state, where former senate president, Ken Nnamani, revalidated his membership, Zwingina referred Oshiomhole, and others of similar disposition on the exercise, to Section 9 of the APC constitution, urging them to find time and read it.
“They should go to section 9, sub-section 4 and refreshen themselves with respect to the provisions of the constitution,” he stated.
Speaking, thereafter, Nnamani urged the people of the South-East zone to take the opportunity of the exercise to join the leading party.
He noted that the wise decision to take now was to join the mainstream party in order to attract more development projects and be part of the scheme of things at the national level.
He said, “I have revalidated my membership of (the) APC at my polling unit today; so, I am encouraging our people, I call on every person from 18 years and above to try and find time to register, to join the national movement called APC, national in the sense that APC is the one responsible for the growth and solidarity of Nigeria.
“It is necessary that our people participate at the centre and not just concentrate on the minor little states in the South-East. Let our people join the mainstream of Nigeria and that is APC. It is the party for everybody and the President has emphasized every person to register from bottom up.
“If we exhaust the registration material, we have more to come. Our people should join this national movement because if you notice the number of people jumping ship and coming into APC wagon, it tells you something is happening.
Nnamani maintained that the APC in Enugu state was now one, stressing that “it is clearly under the leadership of Dr. Ben Nwoye. We call him ‘Archbishop.’ The various factions in Enugu have come together; we are now one.
“Any other person that is anywhere else, the train has left the station, and the person should try and catch up at the next station.”
Earlier, the chairman of the caretaker committee of the APC in Enugu state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said that, with the ongoing exercise, the party was preparing the ground to take over the five states of the South-East geo-political zone in the next general election.
While calling on people of Enugu state and the South-East to take advantage of the registration, Nwoye said APC remained the party to beat in 2023, adding that the party has all it takes to remain in power.
