By Phil Okose, Onitsha
There was jubilation in Owerri, the Imo state capital, yesterday afternoon, as two members of the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra regained their freedom.
Recall that the two, Casmir Ani and Nwoba Richard from Oji River region of Enugu state were on their way to Owerri on January 30 for a meeting with the group leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike when they were arrested at Mgbidi in Oru west local government area, allegedly by men of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze in Imo state. They were said to have been mistaken for IPOB’s Eastern Security Network members.
This latest release of detainees has brought to 17 the number of such incidents in the past six months after Biafra was admitted and inducted as the 46th member of Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organisation last year.
MASSOB confirmed their release in a statement signed by the organisation’s director spokesman, Elder Chris Mocha, and gave the victory to their non-violent approach.
