Ogun police arrest robber in civil defense uniform

The police in Ogun state have arrested an armed robbery suspect, whom they identified as Adeolu Bankole, for allegedly impersonating and using the uniform of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for robbery.
The suspect was arrested on February 5, 2021, following a complaint by some by some students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Aiyetoro that an armed robber broke into their apartment and robbed them at gun point of the phones and laptop.
His arrest came sequel to the complaint made by the students at the Aiyetoro Area Command of the police that an armed robber who dressed in Civil Defense uniform came to rob them of their belongings in their apartment.
The police public relations officer, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement in Abeokuta said that the Area Commander of the Division, ACP Anthony Haruna, went to the suspect’s hideout where a bag containing six phones, one laptop, a pair of civil defense uniform and a locally made pistol was found.
He said that upon the discovery, the detectives mounted surveillance in the area, rounded up the suspect who they arrested thereafter.
The police PRO said that two other stolen phones and a wrist watch was also found on him while complainants were sent for, and they all identified him as the person who robbed them.
He noted that investigation further revealed that the suspect stole the pair of civil defence uniform from a parked Toyota Camry belonging to an officer of the corps on December 2020, later setting the car ablaze. The officer has also identified the uniform as his.
