Nigeria should adopt electronic voting – Onu

The minister of science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has highlighted the need to reform the country’s electoral system by adopting electronic voting to help in minimising the errors caused by human factors in compiling election results.
Onu made this observation when he paid a facility visit to the Electronic Development Institute (ELDI) in Awka, Anambra state, on Wednesday.
The minister was confident that malpractices, fraud, and less credible results would be a thing of the past if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) approve the adoption of e-voting in Nigeria.
“Democracy is like a living organism that grows like humans, animals and plants and, for this to happen, we need electronic voting as this will reduce malpractices associated with human errors,” he said.
The minister believed that the nation’s democratic process will experience tremendous improvement when these reforms take place.
