Mrs Elizabeth David has landed in police net for allegedly hiring suspected cultists to beat up his son-in-law, Mr ChibuzoMbam andMbam’s wife(David’s daughter), Ogonna, over a disagreement.

Orient Daily gathered that David, who hails from OdarikoIgbeagu in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi state, allegedly contracted the hoodlums to manhandle Mbam who reportedly impregnated her daughter but failed to take proper care of her.

The hoodlums, however, went on the mission, beat ChibuzoMbam to a pulp and tied him down in their house.

Consequently, the woman, over the weekend was apprehendedby the Iboko Police Division, alongside four suspected cultists for alleged conspiracy in the beating of herson-in-law and his wife to pulp.

Sources from the community told Orient Daily that, last week, when Ogonna’s elder brother, Nnabuike David, who is sponsoring her in school came back from his place of business outside the state, he mobilised some suspected cult boys numbering six and invaded the neighbouring community where Ogonna lives with her husband and forced the couple to their compound where they (the suspected cultists) tied both of them and beat them up, an act which attracted the attention of the villagers that went for their rescue.

Elizabeth, while defending herself said that trouble started when her daughter got pregnant for Mr. ChibuzoMbam.

She said that the family made several efforts to stop their daughter from marrying the boy whom she accused of maltreating her daughter, but she insisted that she would rather die than to leave him.

The village head, Chief Michael Nwurum said that the villagers got the report when their neighbouring community came with the shocking news that their son with his wife were held hostage after severe beating. They quickly acted to ensure that their captors didn’t kill them.

He disclosed that he engaged the village vigilante group who arrested the accused persons and brought them to the village playground. After their interrogation, Elizabeth, known for her stubbornness asked them to go which prompted him to report the case to Community stakeholders who invited police for their arrest.

NdiugoInyimagu village head, on his part, explained that their son Mr. ChibuzoMbam was reported to had been seized by some suspected cultist led by one Master Nnabuike David who is their brother in-law after he threatened him to leave his sister (the wife) but he insisted that he loved the girl and would marry her.

He said that Mr. Mbam had visited the family with drinks, as the custom demanded, but, instead of receiving them warmly the brother in-law tied him from morning till evening when the village embarked on a search party and found him badly beaten and his wife unable to walk on her own without the husband support. He reported it to the village head who arrested them with vigilante that handed them over to police.

The traditional ruler Igbeagu autonomous community, IgweEzeOgbonnayaUkwa, condemned the action of Mrs. David, saying the matter should have  beensettled by her husband’s family and not her son’s gang, as alleged. He maintained that he would make sure that those behind the dastardly act were all arrested to serve as deterrent to others. He, further, ordered that the pregnant Ogonna be rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention.

Efforts to confirm this report from police proved about as DSP Loveth Odah was said to have to travelled to Awka, Anambra state for a workshop.
