A Criminal High Court sitting in Benin, on Wednesday, sentenced one Miss Vivian Francis, 28, to one-year jail term in correctional centre for exploiting underaged girls asexually.
The presiding judge, Justice Isoken Erameh, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N120,000.
Mrs Ijeoma Uduak, zonal commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Benin zonal command had earlier told the court that the defendant recruited three girls between ages 15 and 18 from Cross River state to Benin, under the guise of working in her large restaurant. She later forced the girls into prostitution. But three girls also made plans and escaped from her custody at night and were found by members of the Federal Road Safety Corps.”
She said that the offence was punishable under Section 13 of the Naptip Act.
