Thunder kills two in Ebonyi community

A heavy thunder storm that struck last weekend has reportedly killed two persons in Afikpo Community, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
The ugly incident occurred in Ngodo community and another community after a heavy down pour which lasted for some hours.
Our correspondent reports that the disaster happened at about 3:00p.m on Friday.
One Mr. Iheukwumere Okogwu Otu from the area who spoke to journalists explained that one of the deceased hailed from Cross River State and has lived in Afikpo for many years.
“Yes, it is true that thunder killed three persons in our place. There was a heavy rainfall in the day which was accompanied by serious thunder.
“The thunder killed the three persons at a spot and it occurred in two different places. It killed two in Ngodo community and another person in another place. One of those that were killed is from Cross River state who settled in Afikpo”, he said.
Iheukwumere who expressed shock over the tragedy described it as tragic and first of its kind in the history of the Afikpo ancient town.
Another resident of Afikpo, Mr. Eze Christian Egwu said that the heavy downpour which he disclosed started at about 10:00am on that fateful day was so serious that the residents couldn’t go out for the day’s businesses.
Egwu, who is the Youth President of Egeburu-Amaokwiri in Afikpo, said the heavy downpour lasted for hours before the thunder struck and killed the victims.
He said only two persons were killed by the disaster.
“My brother, what you heard is true, it is true but two persons were killed and it occurred in Ngodo. Thunder indeed struck two (to dead) at Ngodo”.
