Philanthropist commends Anambra first lady
Philanthropists are of great importance to the society as they play crucial role in alleviating the sufferings of the less privileged.
Making the remark in his office in Onitsha, Executive Chairman/MD, Lake Petroleum Ltd,C.U. Mbaji noted that they give succor to the needy-the aged, the physically challenged and the widows and orphans, lift the down trodden, and take other necessary steps to better the lot of the society.
Mbaji, himself a notable philanthropist who had not only given succor to many but had played enumerable supportive roles to the church and the government, pointed out that such works of charity become more noticeable and significant when they come from highly placed persons who, despite their position, reserve part of their time to consider the plight of the needy.
He cited Anambra State first lady, Ebelechukwu Obiano, who he described as belonging to the group of charitable individuals, and recalled her Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Ambassador Award given her by the European Union (EU) and organ of the United Nation, the UNICEF, and her nomination with first lady, Aisha Buhari and 12 other Nigerians by an International non-governmental organization, the Association for Universal Moral Education for yet another important international award.
According to him, the award to the Anambra first lady is important and will bring honour and recognition not only to her but to state, as the international organization giving the award has 35 member countries with a strong catholic base and has a reputable Nigerian, Rev. Sister Nwodo Mary Jude Theresa as its national co-ordinator for West Africa.
He commended the first lady for the honour and expressed the hope that such award will spur other first ladies and highly placed individuals in the country to give little of their time to cater for the needy in our society and better their living standard.
He charged women in the state to give unflinching support to the first lady, in her efforts and commitment to ameliorate the suffering of the less privileged in the society even as he called on her never to relent in performing her works of charity as, according to him, many need her support at this austere period.
Mbaji, who is the Ide Orah of Achina also commended Governor Willie Obiano for bagging yet another award, that of the “most ingenuous Governor” from the Institute of Charted Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), an award the ICAN president Titus Soetan said during the presentation ceremony at the 46th annual accountants conference held at the international conference centre Abuja that it was “in celebration of the governor as an outstanding ICAN political Ambassador whose giant strides in transforming the state is resonating both nationally and internationally”
