Aluaja Community in Iyano, Ibaji local government area of Kogi has called for the release of a White Paper on the communal crisis that erupted in 2015 between it and two neighbouring communities.
The traditional ruler of Aluaja, Chief Benjamin Akoji, made the request on behalf of his people in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lokoja. He said that release of a white paper on the report of a panel of inquiry set up by the state government in 2016 on the communal clash between his community, Abujaga and Iru communities was overdue.
Akoji said that the crisis occurred in May, 2015 while the state government set up a panel of inquiry under the chairmanship of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Folashade Ayoade, in 2016. He noted that the panel was set up to look into the immediate and remote causes of the crisis.
The royal father said that a white paper on the clash would resolve the conflict permanently.
The monarch said that victims of the clash were in pitiable condition and needed government’s aid.
According to him, the victims have yet to be able to carry out their normal farming and fishing activities, which remain their sources of livelihood.
The monarch said that his people had been living in fear of another crisis, calling on the government to intervene without further delay. He appealed to the state Gov. Yahaya Bello to provide the people of Aluaja, who lost their houses and other valuables to the crisis, with intervention funds to enable them to start life afresh. (NAN)
