Insecurity: Gov Ortom’s security aide killed in Plateau state
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has expressed shock over the gruesome murder of his security aide, a retired assistant inspector general of police, Christopher Dega.
The governor, who spoke with journalists on Wednesday at Benue People’s House, in Makurdi, enjoined security operatives to do everything humanly possible to fish out and apprehend the perpetrators of the act.
He, further, restated that, despite the deceased being retired, he was very active in the discharge of his duties, adding that his untimely exit was a painful and unfortunate development.
According to Ortom, the spate of attacks leading to the deaths of innocent citizens, in recent times, in the South-South, South-East, South-West, North-Central and North-West was alarming and that something needed be done to mitigate it.
According to a Plateau state police command statement, signed by its public relations officer, Mr Gabriel Ogaba, Dega was killed in Bukuru area of Jos.
The statement said the command got “an ugly report of the death of the AIG. It said that, at about 20:30 hours on May 31, 2021, some unidentified gunmen trailed, the former AIG to an isolated restaurant located at Bukuru in Plateau state and shot him to death.
It added that the command had arrested some suspects while investigation was ongoing.
