Fresh crisis hits Delta APC Over Federal Government Appointment
By Nosa Akenzua,
Indications have emerged that two factions of the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC), in Delta State are tugged in a fierce battle over the allocation of Federal Government appointments.
Orient Daily learnt that trouble started when a faction of the Party led by Chief Alex Ideh allegedly met in Koko and demanded that all the federal government appointments due Delta State should be exclusively reserved for Isoko, Itsekiris and Ijaw ethnic nationality.
Among other resolutions as contained in a Communiqué made available to newsmen and dated July 2,201, the Ideh-led faction stated that, “Delta State Chapter of the APC has been bedeviled by extreme violence and absence of internal cohesion, particularly during Congresses due to its inability to reach a consensus among other problems cited, including lack of internal democracy.
“We enjoin the President to give marching orders to those carrying out forensic audit so that an all -inclusive board, representing the true oil producing people of Nigeria Delta can be constituted and inaugurated. In doing this, we advise that whatever be given to persons from the oil producing Communities, particularly persons from the three: Isoko, Itsekiris and Ijaw of the South Senatorial district who are Jointly producing over 80percent of the oil and gas in Delta State”, the statement read.
Infuriated by its obvious omission, the Urhobo Ethnic Nationality in Delta Central Senatorial district, in a counter described the Ideh-led caucus as being selfish and cliquish and their illegal meetings (viewed) as an attempt to subvert their rights.
“We the Urhobo Indigenes of Warri and Asaba metropolis are entitled to equal political rights / federal government appointments as all other Indigenes such as Ijaw, Isoko Itsekiris in Delta State South Senatorial district urge the stakeholders to ignore the provocative Communiqué from Chief Alex Ideh and his gang”, he stated.
