Census: NPC continues EAD Phase 9 in two Ebonyi LGAs
The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced another Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) Phase 9 at Afikpo North and South Local Government Areas of Ebonyi ahead of the next census exercise.
The Federal Commissioner of the commission in charge of the state, Mr Darlington Okereke, made the disclosure Monday in Abakaliki while addressing journalists on commencement of the EAD Phase 9 in the state.
Okereke, represented by Mr Edward Ogbu, the State Coordinator, said the ongoing exercise in the two local government areas was in addition to previous four local government areas of Ohaozara, Ikwo, Ivo and Ebonyi already concluded.
Describing EAD as one of the preparatory activities for the next census, Okereke said the EAD is the foundation on which demographic data for planning and development process will be made.
The commissioner added that the training and field work was ongoing and would last till Dec. 22, 2019 in the two local government areas. He explained that the exercise involved the delineation of the country into small geographical units that would be easily covered by a pair of enumerators during the census period.
“In continuation of its preparatory activities for the next population and housing census, we have commenced the Phase 9 of EAD in Afikpo-North and South LGAs of Ebonyi.
“This exercise is pursuant to our constitutional mandate of providing demographic data for planning and development processes. The exercise has commenced since Nov. 25 to end Dec. 22,” Okereke said.
The commissioner solicited the support of the state government, stakeholders and the media for a successful turnout during the exercise. (NAN)
