Buhari Suspends Hadiza Bala Usman As Ports Authority MD, Reveals Why
President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Hadiza Bala Usman as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
Recall that the President had reappointed her for a second 5-year tenure as the head of the port in January following the expiration of the first appointment in 2016.
In a statement sent out by the President’s official spokesperson, Garba Shehu, and the media aide, Bashir Ahmad, the President was said to have approved the recommendation of the Ministry of Transportation to set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the management of the Port.

Premium Times reported that senior government officials familiar with the development said Hadiza Bala Usman is battling to keep her job after her suspension approval. It added that the suspension was approved on Tuesday but that action remained undisclosed until Thursday evening amid high-level efforts to ensure the decision is reversed.
“PRESIDENT BUHARI APPROVES PANEL OF INQUIRY ON NPA, ASKS MD, HADIZA USMAN TO STEP ASIDE President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendation of the Ministry of Transportation under Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi for the setting up of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA”, Garba Shehu’s statement began.
The President has also approved that the Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman step aside while the investigation is carried out. Mr. Mohammed Koko will act in that position. The panel is to be headed by the Director, Maritime Services of the Ministry while the Deputy Director, Legal of the same ministry will serve as Secretary. Other members of the panel will be appointed by the Minister”, the statement added.
