61 died in Ogun road accidents in 3 months – TRACE

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, has said that no fewer than 61 persons lost their lives in various road accidents across the state between January and March.
TRACE’s public relations officer, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, gave the hint in a press release containing the statistics of Road Traffic Crashes during the first quarter of the year
Akinbiyi said that out of 67 road crashes in January, 22 persons died, 19 deaths recorded from 65 crashes in February while in March, 20 deaths were recorded from 69 road accidents.
The TRACE’s PRO, explained that out of the 61 deaths recorded, 54 were male while seven were female.
He informed that 201 accidents were recorded during the period under review which comprised of 167 vehicles and 34 motorcycles.
Akinbiyi said that 415 people sustained various degrees of injury in the various accidents recorded, saying that 292 male and 123 females were injured.
He opined that most of the accidents were caused by excessive speed, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, tyre burst, using mobile phone while driving among others.
The TRACE spokesperson appealed to motorists to drive cautiously, especially around construction zones and to obey traffic rules and regulations.
