Umuahia Stadium for renovation ahead 2020/2021 NPFL —-Gov Ikpeazu

The Umuahia Township Stadium will undergo major renovation ahead the NPFL season, Executive Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has declared.

The edifice, right in the heart of the capital city of the acclaimed ‘God’s Own State’s, is the official home ground of Abia Warriors in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.

But recently, organisers of the Nigeria top flight, league Management Company, LMC, refused to grant approval for the facility to host NPFL matches in the 2020/2021 season except some repair or rehabilitation work was done in areas it said it had already pointed out to the teams using the stadium.

This has gotten the nerves of Abia Warriors officials and supporters frayed but Governor Ikpeazu has now applied the soothing balm to their frayed nerves with the promise to rehabilitate the stadium in ‘no distant time’.

“Certainly, if for any reason a team loses the right to play their home matches on their own turf, then the next thing to do is to make necessary adjustments and make sure it doesn’t repeat itself again by doing the needful”, Ikpeazu said at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba during the Gov Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament opening match in Aba.

“The (Umuahia) Stadium will be put in good shape so the teams playing there will continue to do so.

“And this will be given the speedy attention it requires but then, we will ensure there’s an alternative for them”.
