MASSOB declares support for proscription of Shiites group in Nigeria
By Phil Okose, Onitsha
The Chief Ralph Uwazuruike-led Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, otherwise called Biafra IndependentMovement, BIM, said yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra state, that it endorsed the proscription of Islamist Movement in Nigeria, called Shiites, for reportedly adopting violence to achieve its objective.
Reacting, the Special Assistant to Chief Uwazuruike on Media and Publicity, Mazi Chris Mocha, stated that “Federal Government might have reason to proscribe Shiites, because, they might have adopted violence, which might have killed whatever thing they had in mind to achieve.
“In our own case, we have remained non violent for the past 20 years now. By 13th September this year, it will be 20 years in this struggle for Biafra actualisation without violence. Government will have no reason to proscribe us because, we have remained non violent to the extent that the United Nations gave us pass mark in 2004.
“If Federal Government has reason to proscribe Shiites, no problem; but as for us, we remain non-violent. For Shiites to attach religion to the whole thing is nonsensical; if not, why would they take up arms to demand for the release of their leader, Mallam Zaky el-Zaky and wife, Zeenat. Ours is different, because, we remain nonviolent.
On the Fulani herdsmen he questioned, he said, “If they label Shiites terrorist group, what about Fulani herdsmen that are number four in the terrorist ranking list. They are a killer group and must be proscribed.
