Many injured as fire guts bungalow in Awka
A bungalow building was on Tuesday gutted by fire along Odogwu Awka Street, old INEC Road, Okpuno Awka, Anambra state. The inferno which started around 7.30pm on Monday, could have escalated if not for the intervention of the men of the Fire Service.
Though no life was lost in the incident, several persons were said to have sustained varying degrees of injury.
The police public relations officer, Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident, saying the area had been cordoned in order to prevent looting and further catastrophic. He said, “There was a fire outbreak at about 7:30pm on 22nd March, 2021 in a bungalow building along Odogwu Awka street old INEC road Okponu Awka.
“Police Operatives quickly rushed to the scene, cordoned the area in order to prevent looting and further catastrophic.
“Meanwhile, Fire Service was contacted and they responded promptly. There was no loss of life as of the time of this report. Though some persons who had various degree of injuries, have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
“The commissioner of police, Anambra state command, Monday Kuryas, has ordered for investigation to unravel the cause of the fire and to also ascertain level of damage. He enjoins citizens and the good people of Anambra on the need to heed on personal and domestic safety within and outside their homes.”
