Anambra state has been rated highest in the South East states in the measles campaign, while it came second in the rest of the states across the country. Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu, said Anambra scored 95% among states in the zone.

Speaking to newsmen in Awka, Ezenyimulu explained that timely release of counterpart funding, coupled with technical assistance, facilitated the successes recorded during the campaign. She praised the mothers and caregivers in the state for bringing out their eligible children (0-5years) during the exercise in spite of false rumours about presence of monkey pox in the state.

Ezenyimulu further revealed that extensive social mobilisation was carried out by different ministries such as Ministry of Education, Women Affairs and the Churches. Expressing appreciation to the various ministries for their efforts at ensuring that the campaign was a success, the Executive Secretary enjoined them not to relent in subsequent exercises for better Anambra. “We urge the state government and the partners to continue at the tempo of timely release of funds for programmes, especially in immunisation, for the state to maintain its top position among states in country. “Remember, Anambra is light of the nation and so, there is no reason why we will not place first in subsequent campaigns,” she stressed.
