Oyo PDP crisis deepens as faction opens parallel party secretariat
Ojo Peter, Ibadan
The crisis rocking the Oyo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took another dimension at the weekend as the faction opposed to the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has opened a parallel party secretariat.
Members of the faction said it was in preparation for the party’s congress coming up in few weeks.
It was glaring that all is not well with the PDP in the state as some legacy party members are not happy over their perceived exclusion from the running of the party by the governor.
Before now, the party secretariat is located at Molete area of Ibadan, the state capital.
But, on Saturday evening, the parallel party secretariat surfaced in the highbrow area of Ibadan, located at No 2 Okunola Abass Street, Bodija Estate, Ibadan.
It is a few minutes’ drive from the Oyo State Government Secretariat, where the governor calls the shot.
It could be recalled that few weeks ago, party members led by Hon. Mulikat Akande Adeola, Hon. Muraina Ajibola, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Adebisi Olopoeyan, Engr. Femi Babalola Jogor and others, had convened a meeting of aggrieved party members from across the state to ‘salvage’ the party.
