The People’s Democratic Party in Ogun state, on Monday, says it is suspecting massive rigging in favour of the ruling All Progressive Party ahead of the July 24 local government election in the state.

PDP’s chairman, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele disclosed this in an exclusive interview in Abeokuta, alleging that APC might use the chairman of Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr Babatunde Osibodu, to rig the council poll in favour of APC.

Ogundele said that the ruling party was trying to impose their candidates in all the 20 local government area of the state and shut candidates of other opposition parties out including the PDP.

The chairman, who said that such imposition by APC was to deny the people rights to pick the candidates of their choices, said that the electorates should be given the chance to choose and vote for whomever they want.

Ogundele, however, challenged the APC to have a free and fair LG contest with PDP at the poll, while urging the people to come out en masse to vote for his party.

He noted that that main opposition party was ready to sensitize the electorates on the need to vote the candidates of their choice without fear, adding that PDP remained the party to beat.

The PDP chairman said “We are suspecting massive rigging. They are imposing their candidate on the people. We are just waiting for them. The APC has been so insensitive to the plight of the people. They don’t have direction towards imparting on the lives of the people.”

“The electorate should be given the opportunity to select who should be at the helm of affairs of the various LGs, not just anybody. We are sensitising our people, the electorate, on what it takes to go to the polling centre and vote and make sure your votes count,” he added.
