Young Progressive Party (YPP) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central district, for the 2023 general election, Dr Chinedu Umeadi, has assured that if elected senator, he would look beyond personal or sectional interest in the distribution of constituency projects to his people.

In a press conference in Awka on Friday, November 25, Umeadi said that the interest and welfare of his senatorial district is the driving force behind his aspiration; noting that he is not in the senatorial race to represent his personal interest.

He pointed out that the seven council areas and different communities that make up Anambra Central senatorial district, which he is contesting to represent, have peculiar needs which, he said, must be properly addressed.

He also said that his youthful disposition and past antecedents would work in his favour in the 2023 general election.

‘I am a youthful candidate with myriad of youth oriented programme. I have lifted many youths, women and students through my foundation. My foundation has been doing a lot of activities for the youths. This must be the reason different youth groups are endorsing my candidature.

“The endorsement of my candidature is not limited to the youths. Many others, including women groups, are in support of my aspiration because, everybody has grown weary of the old order,” he said.

Umeadi further said that his priority as a senator will be to sponsor bills that will outlaw strike actions in schools and hospitals. The bill, he said, will also embody mortalities to be put in place to ensure that teachers and health workers are adequately taken care of; including provision of adequate facilities for proper functioning of the institutions.

“Strikes have destroyed a whole lot of people. I have seen good boys and girls turned bad because, their academic programmes got disrupted. Similarly, lives have been wasted in health institutions on account of industrial actions. There must be a comprehensive solution to this ugly trend,” he added.
