Lai Mohammed, a one-chance public office holder – APC Reps member
By Oluseyi Dasilva, Ilorin
A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Ismail Kayode Tijani, representing Ifelodun, Offa and Oyun constituency of Kwara state on Tuesday described the minister for Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as one to be best called ‘one-chance’ public office holder.
Tijani who was responding on Tuesday to allegations and comments linked to the minister that governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, lamented that the several comments coming from Alhaji Lai Mohammed were deliberately targeted at destroying the party and bringing down stakeholders of the party.
“The truth is that there were crises before the party primary election and, after the emergence of party candidates, I could remember when Alhaji Lai Mohammed made attempt to replace the names of some candidates, after party primary. Alhaji Lai, personally called me and told me to step down for Gbenga Power which I resisted and he later sponsored Gbenga to challenge my victory in court. Thank God, I came out victorious.”
“Alhaji Lai, as a minister for six years, what has he facilitated to Kwara in terms of developmental projects to warrant him calling our performing governor ‘one-chance?’ The truth is that, he is out to polarise and destroy APC.”
“Imagine, a minister supporting illegality within the party, we have a party chairman, in person of Abdullahi Samanri, fully recognised by the Mai Mala Buni-led national caretaker committee and minister is here supporting Bashir Bolarinwa, to destabilize the party”
Responding to allegation of financial support to party candidates in 2019 election claimed by the minister, Tijani said “I, as a person, did not receive one naira from Alhaji Lai Mohammed; it was Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq that gave us support”
He, however, acknowledged that he was given a vehicle in line with the party arrangement.
He further said that, “2023 is about masses not political merchant that are going around blackmailing the performing governor, that is turning around the state in terms of infrastructure, all because of their selfish interest and arrogance.”
“Who can be best called ‘one-chance’ public office holder if not Alhaji Lai Mohammed that the whole world knows as lie lie, to the extent that his grandchild asked him why people call him lie lie?”
“We are glad to have AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as governor and our party leader, and we challenge apolitical masses to judge us, based on their evaluation when it’s time”
Talking about his achievements, Hon. Tijjai said “as a member of the Federal House of Reps, representing Irepodun, Offa and Oyun constituency with 41 political wards, I have covered 39 wards in terms of projects and empowerment and more are still coming,” he said.
