Ize-Iyamu calls for calm over Obaseki Supreme Court victory
by Nosa Akenzua, Benin
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in Edo state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has reacted to Friday’s Supreme Court judgment that gave victory to his opponent, by suing for peace among his supporters. The apex court had the given victory in the election to his opponent and incumbent, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Recall that the APC and one of its chieftains, Williams Edobor, had filed a petition against Obaseki’s victory at the poll, alleging that the PDP candidate contested the election with a forged University of Ibadan degree certificate.
However, the court dismissed the appeal on the ground that the appellants failed to prove their case about the alleged forgery.
The court added that, having looked at all the Supreme Court decisions, there ought to be a disclaimer from the University.
Ize-Iyamu’s response was contained in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, titled: “Because we were gallant, our hope is alive.”
