Okorocha suspended by APC?
By Sunday Elom N.
The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has officially suspended the former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha over what it called gross anti-party activities.
Senator Okorocha was notified of his suspension through a letter dated 12th July, 2021 and signed by the National Secretary of the party, Senator John James Akpanudoehe.
The letter titled ‘Re: Notification of your suspension from the All Progressive Congress (APC) party for gross anti-party activities’ with a reference number: APC/NHDQ/SP/19/022/41, was obtained by Orient Daily.
The letter read: “This is to communicate to you, the National Working Committee (NWC) of All Progressive Congress (APC) party ratification of your suspension by the Imo State chapter of our great party for gross anti-party activities.
“This suspension follows after the recommendation by the Imo State Disciplinary Committee set up to investigate allegations of gross anti-party activities against you which is in line with Article 21 (B) i-vi of the party’s constitution.
“Below are the anti-party activities on which the investigation and subsequent suspension were relied upon; Continuous discrete meetings with the opposition party both at the state and national level, working in opposition to APC-led government in Imo State and flagrant public abuse on the person and office of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria (an APC-led government).
Another reason cited in the suspension notice includes; Sundry outstanding disciplinary issues with the party at state level
“The party is committed towards the sustenance of democratic virtue/integrity and as such finds these anti-party activities weighty enough to ratify your suspension from the All Progressive Congress (APC) party. Subsequently, the National Working Committee (NWC) shall communicate any further change on your membership status of the party”, the notice further stated.
Recall that the controversial senator who was a former Governor of Imo State has been at loggerhead with the incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma who is in the same ruling APC.
The battle between Senator Okorocha and Governor Uzodinma has led to the Imo State government sealing and seizing several properties belonging to the former governor and his wife. The most recent one is the sealing of his Foundation College on Tuesday over an allegation of converting the lands of the staff quarters of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, to his college.
One of the government agents who preferred hidden identity said that Foundation College was one of the properties of the government the court had given order to recover from the former governor.
They also said it was contained in the white paper recommendations for the recovery of stolen properties in the state.
Meanwhile, reports reveal that the government officials arrived early hours of Tuesday, at the Rochas Foundation College location, marked the building with the inscription “Keep off by Imo State government.”
The agent said: “We have recovered the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, which the former governor, Okorocha, took over and converted it to his Rochas Foundation College. What you are seeing now is covering 48 hectares of land and if you look at it very well most of the.
“You have to know that this is also in line with the 3Rs of Hope Uzodimma’s administration of Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction. The recovery of Imo properties must be done and completed. It is our heritage no one man should take it.
