Anambra Guber: Maduka joins Accord party, picks Obi as running mate

A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Dr. Godwin Maduka has joined the Accord Party as a political Party to contest for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

Maduka, alongside his Deputy, Sir Kenneth Obi was officially presented to the Accord party faithful at his campaign office, along Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Awka on Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists, the Accord Party gubernatorial candidate said his decision to decamp from PDP was borne out of illegalities that exist in the Party. While he maintained that he has no grudges against PDP, he said the leadership of Accord is the Party that understands true democracy and that is willing to usher democracy to the people.

He said his ambition to contest in the election was provoked by desire to transform Anambra to a medical tourist centre by utilizing eminent medical doctors churned out by the State and who had performed excellently in the medical field.

He said his experience in the United States of America would help usher the transformation that the people yearns for having languished in hunger and poverty. “I have stayed in America for over 30 years and now I want to come back and give to the people of Anambra State what I have given to them over the years. My qualification speaks volumes for myself made huge establishment in America and many philanthropic a gestures in the Anambra State.”

Maduka, a US medical expert, stated that his administration would ensure social welfare of the people by tackling hunger and insecurity. He also assured that women and youths would form vital part of his government if he emerges victorious in the election. 

He lamented that the absence of a Seaport in Anambra had deprived the State of its potential revenues, informing that his administration would liaise with the federal government to establish a seaport that would facilitate trade for the people of the state.

Meanwhile, the Accord State Chairman, Mr. Batho Igwedibia stated that the choice of Dr. Godwin Maduka as the party candidate for the gubernatorial election was not a mistake and that it would give the candidate all necessary support to emerge victorious in the election. 

He described Dr Maduka as a man of pedigree and expressed confident that millions of people will cast their vote for the party because of his antecedents.
