2023: Top Delta APC man defects to PDP
By Nosa Akenzua,
A media strategist in the Delta state All Progressives Congress, APC, Fidelis Chimokwu, has officially defected to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Chimokwu who paid a courtesy call on Delta state governor’s executive assistant (communications), Barr Fred L. Oghenesivbe, on Wednesday in his office, said the APC had failed Nigerians woefully and that President Mohammadu Buhari, had since lost touch with the people, unable to secure Nigeria as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
He said Nigeria was economically a robust country in 2015 when former President Goodluck Jonathan handed over power to President Buhari, adding that the APC federal government did not have the solutions to the multifaceted problems it had created in the past six years. He urged Nigerians to vote PDP in the forthcoming presidential and governorship elections in 2023.
Chimokwu, who obtained his PDP membership card at Ward 2, Aniocha South local government area, disclosed that the exit of Okowa’s EAC, Oghenesivbe, from the party (APC) in 2017, led to the total collapse of Delta APC media structure. He said that collapse was also responsible for the dwindling popularity of the authentic leader of the party in the state, Olorogun Otega Emerhor.
According to Chimokwu, Oghenesivbe, was the motivating factor and mentor to the party media team, adding that his exit created a big vacuum that could not be filled by those he left behind in the party’s media and communication unit.
“Delta APC media has been a shadow of itself since you, our Pen Eagle and political communication strategist left us. Another good news is that I have come to join you in PDP, to work closely with you like we did while we were in APC. I want to also inform you that the few APC members in Aniocha South will defect to PDP before 2023 general elections.
Oghenesivbe congratulated Chimokwu for, as he put it, coming out of darkness, APC, into light, PDP, saying that APC had taken Nigeria 60 years backward within the last six years. He appealed to Nigerians to punish APC in 2023 for failing to fulfil electioneering promises made by the party and President Buhari in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
“The nation is sinking rapidly while President Buhari and his propagandists are telling us that all is well with Nigeria. We all know that Nigeria has been drained, sucked and battered under APC national government in the past six years and still counting.”
“Nigerians must be united under PDP to sack APC and Buhari from Aso Rock in 2023. This is not the buoyant and striving Nigeria that President Goodluck Jonathan handed over to APC/Buhari in 2015.
“Nigeria is in comatose and we must unit to save our country from APC political mafias,” Oghenesivbe said.
Reacting to the defection, however, the APC publicity secretary in Delta state, Barr Sylvester Imonina, described Chimokwu’s defection as inconsequential to his party in Delta state, adding that “We have lost nobody as such; the media organisation of our great party is still very formidable and we are ready for 2023 elections, to make the difference in all honesty.’
Imonina, noting that the PDP-led administration in the state thrived on propaganda and lies, however, urged the APC members in the state to be steadfast, following the tasks ahead 2023 adding, “What we have observed PDP doing is orchestrated jamboree.”
