The Strike Force, a special unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), disclosed that its men intercepted and seized about 513 bags of foreign parboiled rice with a duty paid value of N22,581,500 on April 19 this year.
The Coordinator of the Service Strike force in charge of Zone” B “for Kaduna and Kwara states axis, Olorukooba Aliyu stated this while addressing a group of journalists at the headquarters of the Customs Area Command in Ilorin.
The Customs boss said that the seizures were made upon tip off on the activities of economic saboteurs on Jekunu-Malete and Bani axis of Kwara state.
He added that a team of officers dispatched to the area intercepted the two Toyota Canter fully loaded with bags of 50kilogram of foreign rice that a large quantity of foreign parboiled rice yet to be loaded into vehicles was also intercepted.
Olorukooba commended the resilience of the officers who ensured all the intercepted contraband items were evacuated to the command headquarters despite attacks from smugglers.
The coordinator assured of the determination of the strike force arm of Customs Service in ensuring that economic saboteurs are not given the free space to operate while he also urged the general public to continue in its support for the service to ensure that the mandate of making the country economically viable is achieved.
