Commercial sex worker kills customer, residents burn hotel
By Buchi Iwuji, Owerri
It was a bizarre adventure last Thursday in Owerri as a commercial sex worker stabbed his customer to death for refusing to pay her after the act.
Our correspondence reported that the male costumer could not pay the agreed fee and that angered the sex hawker so much as to wage a deadly war with him. When the news broke, angry residents immediately, set the hotel, Skeleu, ablaze. The incident, which happened at Umuguma in Owerri, Imo state, caused panic in the area as traders closed their shops out of fear. Even motorists were forced to take alternative routes as the fire raged.
There were police and fire service personnel around working hard to stop the inferno that ensued.
A source said “a prostitute killed his male friend because he was unable to pay him after sex marathon.”
Hours after the hotel had been razed down, military men suspected to have been deployed from the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri, arrived at the scene to maintain order.
When contacted, the interim management committee chairman of Owerri West local government area of the state, Chief Okechukwu Enyioha, said that security men had taken over the scene.
While confirming the incident, the council boss said “yes, I have been briefed and security men have taken (care) of the scene of the incident. The security agents are working hard and law is being enforced.”
According to him, all the security apparatus in the local government area had been activated to ensure that the incident did not degenerate.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, promised to get back with details but never did until press time.
