A 20 years old suspect, Ogbeide Pius has confessed that he planned to rob and use his share to migrate to Ghana.
Ogbeide made the revelation while being paraded alongside other suspected criminals at the Headquarters of the Edo State Police Command in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
According to him, “my plan was to rob and run to Ghana, so I told my friends and we went to rob two POS at Erediawa, Upper Sakponba Road, we collected 100.000.00( One Hundred Thousand Naira) from one and 30,000.00( Thirty Thousand Naira) from the second one and we went to lodge in a hotel at Ekhuwan Road.
“I was hurrying the other two guys that, they should share the money because I want to run to Ghana, but before we shared it, the police came and arrested us.”
The Edo State Police Command on Friday paraded 34 suspected criminals: 20 for armed robbery,7 for cultism,4 for kidnapping, and 3 escapees from the two Correctional Centres in Edo State, while arms and ammunition of various calibre were recovered.
Parading the suspects, the Edo State Police Commissioner, Babatunde Johnson Kokumo said the command is ever ready to combat crime and criminality especially as we approach the yuletide period.
“As we gradually exit 2020 and approach 2021, we have continued to discharge our constitutional responsibilities aimed at protecting lives and property by striving to prevent crime and criminality. However, there have been reported cases of kidnapping inter-cult rivalry clashes in the state; they are being painstakingly looked into to sniff out the perpetrators wherever they hibernate.
“As we approach the yuletide season, the Police will not rest on its oars until all the arms and ammunition carted away by the hoodlums, the aftermath of EndSARS protest are recovered and escapees from Benin and Oko Custodial Centres rearrested. The criminal elements resident in the Edo State will not know peace while those planning incursion from contiguous states are warned to steer clear as the Police Command is fully prepared to wage war against them.
“In the last two weeks the Command have arrested a total of 34 suspected criminals, twenty of them for robbery, seven for cultism, four were arrested over the kidnapping and three escapees from the Correctional Centres In Edo State. Weapons of various calibre were also recovered from them. Including;
